Desert Fencing Academy

Hi to everyone,

Just a reminder of DFA's April schedule.

DFA will be closed April 2-7, that is Monday through Saturday.
I will be in Portland, Oregon, working with Ed Korfanty, the US Olympic
sabre coach and his staff all that week.  Mariel Zagunis and Rebecca Ward
will be there, also, and I'll have the opportunity to work with them.

Ed is my coach and mentor and all that he, his staff and his fencers show me
while I'm there with them I can bring back to DFA and our fencers.

Our next tournament will be at COD on Saturday, April 21.

Also, congratulations to Nico Bergmann who participated in a piano competition this
month of March and took third place and received a cash prize!

Wishing everyone a happy end of March and a Happy April and Easter.

Hi to all,
Just want to keep everyone up to date with our schedule.

DFA will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 16, 17 and 18.
Our fencers will be in Pasadena competing in the Junior Pacific Coast
Championships at the Pasadena Convention Center.

DFA will be closed the week of April 2- 7.  I will be in Portland, Oregon,
working with Ed Korfanty, the U.S. Olympic sabre coach.  Ed and his coaching staff have been kind enough
to let me come and spend that week working out and training with them and their fencers.  It's a
wonderful opportunity to work with the "Master" and bring back to DFA and our fencers the most current
teaching, training and coaching techniques and methods.

The next College of the Desert tournament will be Saturday, April 21.

February 16-19, the fencers, their parents and I were in Denver, Colorado for
the Junior Olympics.
There were 1,700 fencers!  And the event was held in the Denver Convention
Center.
Scott Pippin, Masaki Yamada, Nico Bergmann and Gretchen Bueermann competed in
the sabre events and Linden Ballen competed in epee.

All the kids did a great job and finished higher than they had been seeded
before the tournament began.
There is no doubt that J.O.'s is a daunting and awesome competition, but the
kids handled themselves with calm and poise.  It's a wonderful learning experience.  My thanks and
praise to their parents who were there to support all the kids.
