Hollywood Needs Fencing Lessons

Did you know that actors need fencing lessons if they are going to play a part with swordfighting? Actors don't just pick up a sword and start flailing away. They learn how to stand correctly, how to move their feet, and how to hold and maneuver a blade.

SwordPlay Fencing Studio teaches theatrical fencing to Hollywood actors, and to anyone that wants to know how. Check out their website.

I have fenced some of their students, and I have to say they must have some good coaches. I have witnessed that they maintain good form and conditioning with their students. I'm glad to see their club represented at tournaments because I know I'll have a day of good fencing if I meet up with them.

February Schedule

Hi to all, and happy February!

Here are some dates to jot down for fencing and events at DFA this February.

February 11, fencing tournament at San Bernardino Valley College

February 16-20, DFA will be closed as I will be in Hartford, Connecticut, with some of our fencers for the Junior Olympics

February 25, DFA 3rd year anniversary party from noon to 3:00 p.m. Join us for cake and coffee

Congratulations to Daniel Lee on winning a gold medal in the Mixed Epee event at College of the Desert, January 21, and earning his C’06 rating in epee…all in his very first tournament!

Please know that I try to make up fencing lessons for students who will miss a lesson because we are closed for a tournament. So, a fencer may come any Monday through Friday for a make up lesson. Just give me a call ahead of time and I will schedule the lesson in my calendar.
